No It Wasn't OK

So, I survived my dreaded double-shift on Wednesday. I ended up not going to work on Thursday at Best Buy, which kinda ticked off my boss there. I would love to just work at Best Buy, and not have to depend on Blockbuster too, but that doesn't seem to be happening anytime soon. I enjoy working at both companies, though.

I upgraded the memory on my Mac Mini! I've thought about doing it lately, and finally took the plunge and did it. I went from having 512K RAM to a blazing 2 Gigs. My system is running top notch again, and it's a sigh of relief to be honest. It's awesome that a company like Apple constantly improve their product, but it gets kinda crappy when you see that your system gradually becomes obsolete. I almost considered getting a new Mac Mini with a Core 2 Duo processor, but opted to just push the memory up for a fraction of the cost. I love my mini, and really couldn't part with it. It has a ton of potential, it just needs the time and attention to achieve those goals. One bad thing about the Mac Mini is that it's not very easy to upgrade since the machine doesn't have any access screws anywhere. You have to pry the sucker open, and delicately work around it's inner-casing, which is really tightly put together. I had to use a YouTube video tutorial to help me change the memory, but it was so worth it.

oldmemory

That's the old memory up there. Those two cards are 256K each, bringing the memory I had to a total of 512K. The Mac only has two slots for memory, and it's essential that each slot be balanced. I replaced those with two 1 gig cards, quadrupling the memory in the process. Now I don't know what to do with those two cards. My other Mac already has a gig (512K x 2), so I really don't have a use for them. I'll see if can find someone that needs them.

Well, there she is, straight out of surgery, and back into action. No matter how often I clean off my desk, I always end up getting it all cluttered up again. It's either a remote control, or mail, or CD/Media/ or just plain jump. I need to find a system to keep everything organized. If you can believe this, I actually used to keep my keyboard on my desk, now I keep it on the sliding compartment underneath. It's not like the Mac Mini actually needs the desk space .

I can't wait to watch the new Halloween movie by Rob Zombie. I have a free pass and I intend to use it! Halloween is one of my most favorite horror movies, and I've loved everything that Rob Zombie's done. This is a monumental event indeed...

...Those Shoes Are Definitely Bi-Curious

30rocktv

Now, I've seen a couple episodes of 30 Rock on iTunes, but I never caught the show while in it's original broadcast schedule. Tonight I watched the first disc from Season One of the show. Some people really hate dead-pan humor, but I just love it. This show kinda reminds me of Arrested Development, so the attraction I have with 30 Rock shouldn't be that odd. First of all, Tina Fey is just too adorable for words. She is, and if you don't believe me, you probably don't know who she is. The chemistry she shares with Alec Baldwin is incredible. Fey's a great writer, and you can see just how much she sinks into her role as a writer/actress/creator for the show. I never realized that the hot cheerleader from Heroes was in this show. Like I said, the humor is very dry, but that's just the way I like it

bourne_ultimatum1_1024

So I finally went to see The Bourne Ultimatum today. It's one of the few summer films I wanted to catch in it's theatrical run. This film was a fitting end to the Bourne franchise, and I enjoyed every second of it. I went right after I got done at work, and just relaxed while taking in a great movie. I just started to go to a new theater that's not too far from my job. I've actually gotten sick of AMC Theaters. So far, this new place is actually cleaner, and nicer. The only draw is that the last two movies I've seen there, have had scratches on the film prints, which show up on screen as long straight black lines. It's not really a huge deal, but I find it distracting that I can actually get better picture quality on my HDTV set at home, than I can in a theater. I still enjoy the movie-going experience, and I know I probably always will. Also, as long as I keep on getting free passes, that'll seal the deal!

Man, work was murder today. I couldn't get any of my work done today because I ended up helping with the unloading of the Distribution Center Truck. It was huge, weighing in at over 6,000 pieces. My wrist was still giving me a little trouble, so I really wasn't working at full capacity. The only thing that made it worse was that there was only three people unloading it, for the first three hours. Once you get more hands helping, everything goes much quicker. I can't complain, it's one hell of a work out!

After I left the theater, I went over to Petco to buy Millie a few birthday presents. She turned two years old today, so I figured I should get her some new stuff. I ended up getting her a couple new beds (which she loved), some chewy rawhide snacks (which she loved also), and another squeaky "shoe" toy (which I knew she was going to love). If she didn't feel loved before, she better darn well feel loved now :) She's made our lives brighter, I think she deserves to be pampered on her birthday... don't you?

shoot my cupid out of the sky, break off his wings,
and gouge out his eyes, and thank him for nothing,
'cause that's all that he gave to me;
your love is my heart disease...."

Blah... I'm tired

These past two days have been so grueling. Nothing but work. I've neglected cleaning my room, and even exercising. I managed to clean up a little bit today, but all I can think about is the double shift I'm going to do on Wednesday. I also have a free pass to see The Bourne Supremacy that is expiring soon. I'm going to take Thursday off, I think I deserve that much.

I bought another DVD player yesterday to match my receiver. I was able to get it really cheap because it was an open model, and it didn't contain the remote control. Once I set up my TV's remote to use on the Yamaha DVD player, I'll be able to fiddle around with the settings. So far, the quality of the player is pretty good. I tested it out with the movie Falling Down, and I was quite surprised how good it looked.

I still haven't installed the new memory I bought for my Mac Mini. I'm kinda scared to open up my Mac Mini, and just completely mess it up. I know it probably won't be as difficult as I think, but fear is getting the better of me. I know I won't actually pay someone to do such an easy task. All that I do know is, I need to upgrade the memory so I can run this system even smoother than before. I actually want to start editing video again, and I know 512K of RAM aren't going to cut it. I'll hope and pray for the best once I crack this sucker open.

I really don't feel like working tomorrow, but I know I'll regret it more later if I don't go. Bah, I hope there aren't a lot of missing games tomorrow... I really don't need the extra aggravation.

...Another Day Bites The Dust

I can consider today to be a grand day. I started out the day by sleeping in a little bit, which has been a rare occurrence in my life recently. I started work a little after noon at Best Buy, and waited for the Distribution Center truck to arrive. I usually don't work on Fridays, but I wanted to help out with the truck, since it's proven to be a great work out in the process. I've started working out again, and it feels great. When I exercise on a semi-daily basis, I feel like a whole other person. A person that is full of energy and motivation. I find myself actually exerting more effort in life, and enjoying myself more because of it.

The truck was huge, which it usually is at the store I work at. No matter how "flat" high definition television sets are, they are still very heavy, especially when you have to lift several dozen within a short amount of time. In any case, the time went by very fast, and I got a good workout. I left the store a little before 6:00 p.m. and decided to pick up a few things. I exchanged an HDMI cable for a friend, and bought a couple DVDs and some memory for my Mac Mini. I also picked up a PS3 component cable for my boss at Blockbuster. Right after I checked out, I went to see The Simpsons Movie. I had a free pass, and today was the last day it was valid. Couldn't let a free pass expire right?

I thoroughly enjoyed the movie. It had several laugh-out-loud moments. I picked up a lot of the subtle tie-ins from the show, even-though I haven't really kept up with the show. I loved how they used the Springfield Gorge towards the end, and how they kept the ambulance, wrecked, in the background. That really brought a smile to my face. I really liked a lot of the songs and music from the movie. I'm considering picking up the soundtrack on Monday when I go back to Best Buy.

Right before I drive anywhere, I usually like to pick out a couple CDs from my collection. Recently, I've been picking up albums that I haven't listened to in a long time. Today it was Guano Apes' "Proud Like A God", and I completely forgot how much I liked this album. I hadn't heard it in years, but re-discovering it made me analyze the music more. I could honestly say that this band sounds like a mix between Garbage (which is a band I've really gotten back into lately) and Exilia. In any case, I love to re-discover music. I'll include a couple samples below from both bands.

"Rise When You Fall" by Exilia

"Rain" by Guano Apes

Well, I promised Heaven I would update my stie more often, and I really hope I keep up with my blogging this time around. I know that if I continue to update my blog, it will only help improve my writing skills, which I really need to improve.

I'll do my best to include some music in every post, so make sure to check back for the music, at least

Whenever I watch an anime more than once, it's safe to assume that I
really like the show. I'm almost done watching Gungrave for the third
time. There are few shows that have an emotional impact on me, and
Gungrave is one of those shows. I laugh, I cry, my heart breaks when I
watch this show. The story of two best friends, and how the choices they
make, determine the life they end up with. The biggest tragedy from the
series is the path that Brandon Heat takes. He gives up everything for
a friend, that will ultimately betray him in the worst possible way. He
gives up the woman he loves, his freedom, and his chance to live a life
filled with morals. Brandon may seem like a very easy character to
dissect, but his character actually has the most intricate personality. I
sympathize with him, on almost every level humanly possible. It's safe
to say he's my favorite anime character ever. It's also very strange that
the woman he loves so much, is named Maria. Whenever he whispers
her name, it strikes a chord with me as well. I know when I watch the
last episodes again, I'll be a blubbering mess all over again.

I know I mentioned Bonnie Pink a while ago, but I've gotten into her
music even more now. The last time I mentioned this Japanese singing
sensation, I had only heard one of her albums. Currently, I own every
major release by her, and have listened to her music constantly, if almost
on a daily basis. I've never listened to a musician such as Bonnie Pink.
Eventhough a lot of her music is in Japanese, that doesn't take anything
away from how much I enjoy her music. It's very strange that I'd pick up
on an artist almost instantly, and buy all her albums at that same pace.
I have yet to listen to a Bonnie Pink song that I didn't like, and I really
doubt I will. A friend of mine from last.fm sent me her latest single, and
I totally loved it. I really can't wait for a new album, I'm sure it'll be as
fantastic as all her past recordings.

I got their new album the other day, figured I should listen to their older stuff before I sink into their new CD. This is a fantastic album.
